You know actually earning their materials of technology, their clothes, etc.

I didn't grow up with a lot of money - it taught me how to value a dollar. But these kids cannot all be rich - I wonder what runs through their parents' head when they buy them a 200-400 dollar phone when the kid is a total brat and doesn't deserve it.

It all depends how you were raised. Some families are rich but they give their kids hand-me-downs and make them pay for their own stuff. Our generation is really lazy when it comes to work ethic. I'm no exception. I worked then took off two years just because I couldn't stand it. Now I have a job and I'm building my work ethic. I respect all those who value a dollar and pity those who take money for granted.

I remember hearing a story about a family here in town that bought their twin daughters a MOUNTAIN load of Christmas gifts one year. These folks were loaded. The kids were opening presents for four hours and at the end they were BAWLING because they didn't get enough presents.

Its sad really.

I don't usually ask for much, I had an $8 phone for 2 years, but when my grandparents go and buy me stuff when I never ask for it like my car I always feel bad because I think people will think I'm some spoiled kid and I really don't want to be like that. My parents aren't rich but my grandparents are and my grandpa likes buying things for people and I'd hate it if people thought I could just get another car if I totaled mine because I'd probally be without a car for a very long time.

I see prime examples of this day by day. Kids, by generation, grow more and more unappreciative of what they have. They're spoiled, they're snobs, and they have no recognition for what lays ahead of them. We had a discussion today in my Honors English class about a lack of knowledge for the real world, and how suicide rates have increased in teenagers due to the simplicity of not being prepared for the disappointments that life most certainly entails.

But can you really judge how teenagers were like in the 70s for instance?

How do you know they were any better?

I'm the same as Jake, I always feel bad when people buy me sort of expensive stuff. My family is pretty much in the middle when it comes to money. Not all kids value hard work and don't have to work to get anything, but there are also a lot of kids who are working a job or two to support their family.
It does really annoy me that there are people my age who have things handed and I think that nothing good is free.

There's a family in town who's loaded and basically set for life. Their oldest (the son) has around 3 [fancy] cars and is only a senior in high school. Their youngest (the daughter), however, seems to be fairly nice.

Sometimes it's not the parents' fault for raising them wrong, it's the kids' fault for failing to realize how lucky they are and failing to appreciate their parents for working so hard to get where they are.
