Hot Mainstream Rock Track's Number 1 Hit's Song Tournament-1981
Hello, TG. I am going to be starting a tournament that will be involving the Billboard's Hot Mainstream Rock Track's Chart. This chart opened in 1981 under the name of "Top Tracks".
The rules of this tournament are simple. The tournament will start with a yearly nomination process. Every three days, a new new year will be opened in a thread with a new poll. Every year will be consisted of songs that had reached number 1, no matter how many weeks it was number on.
I will be taking the top 3 songs of each year, so everybody will have a maximum of 3 votes to give. You can only give 1 vote if you please or two votes, but the MAXIMUM amount of votes one voter gets per year is 3.
After we go through every year from 1981 t0 2010, we will then have the Grand Tourney Finale. This were all the top songs will meet in head to head to matchups, bracket style, till we get a winner!
And now, I present the grand opening of the tournament!
Here is year: 1981
****You can vote for "Harden My Heart" by post but not by poll. The poll can only have so many options. Sorry for the inconvenience!
March 21-"I Can't Stand It" by Eric Clapton-2 weeks at number one
April 4-"You Better Bet" by The Who-5 weeks
May 9-"The Waiting" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers-6 weeks
June 20-"A Life of Illusion" by Joe Walsh-1 week
June 27-"The Voice" by The Moody Blues-4 weeks
July 25-"Urgent" by Foreigner-4 weeks

September 5-"Start Me Up" by The Rolling Stones-13 weeks
December 5-"Waiting for a Girl Like You" by Foreigner- 1 week

You can still toss a vote for "Harden My Heart"!!! The poll can only have 10 options so if you want to vote for that song just post it here.

Wow, fantastic thread, this is an incredibly difficult choice for me. I have always loved Urgent, In my opinion that has the second best saxophone solo in the classic rock genre. Tom Petty has always been one of my favorite classic rock artists, but, for some reason I have never been a huge fan of "The Waiting." However, my top song is definitely going be "Burnin' For You" by Blue Oyster Cult. The atmosphere of the entire song lifts me to feelings of freedom, this is partially because I would often listen to this song on roadtrips with my parents. I was four years old at this time, and the vacations away from my babysitter seemed to last forever. This song has so much feeling, it always causes me to feel optimistic about the world around me.
My Top Three Songs:
1. Burnin' For You
2. Waiting for a Girl Like You- Foreigner (I love the emotion in this song)
3. The Waiting- Tom Petty
Honorable Mention- Urgent- Foreigner

Yeah, this thread by another post in another forum. But after one of his tourney's he just stopped, which led me to start my own.
And I have to agree with Donald on "The Waiting." I love Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, but I fail to really get into this song, which is why I didn't choose it.

Looks like Burnin' For You and Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic are tied for the top two spots. Start Me Up, and You Better Bet are tied for the last spot.
There are still a few days left to vote!
But I would like to make clear, that all songs involved in ties for the top spots will be taken. So for example, if I stopped this poll right now, I would take 4 songs to the Grand Tourney rather than the usual 3. So it is possible for more than 3 songs from that year to move on.

I have never heard that Eric Clapton song but I can still use the song title as a joke.
What do I think of Eric Clapton? I Can Stand Him.
