Rap/Hip-Hop?
What's your opinion on Rap/Hip-Hop? Personally, I cannot stand it. It has taken over in mainstream music, and for all the wrong reasons. What is popular today does not contain any lyrical message worth listening to, nor does it require any instrumental knowledge (unless you count mixing samples).
I mean, it's just my opinion, but if you like it, what is the appeal?

Re: Rap/Hip-Hop?
lol, I posted my thoughts in the post asking why a song was a hit.
It's far too simple, it's far too demeaning, it's far too BLEH.
Sexual innuendos are lame.
Talking down about groups, races, etc, and thinking it's cool is lame.
I think I'm going to post yet another comic here, haha.

Re: Rap/Hip-Hop?
I agree. The lyrical themes are so overdone, and it goes without saying how horrible they are.

Do you forget about political rap like Public Enemy and their are the Roots who are an actual hip hop group that play insturments insted of relying on manufactured beats.

Re: Rap/Hip-Hop?
My friend listens to a band called The Gritz. I guess they're Christian rap or something, but I still don't like rap. It just doesn't sound good to me.
Re: Rap/Hip-Hop?
I can listen to some of the underground stuff, because the lyrics are usually a little more in depth, but I agree, it still doesn't sound good.
Re: Rap/Hip-Hop?
Apollo likes rap and hip hop, but nothing mainstream. A few good places to start if you're looking for good rap are Immortal Technique, Jedi Mind Tricks, The Roots, and NWA.
NWA is a little too "Bitches and money" for most people though.

I'm familiar with Immortal Technique. Dance With The Devil (or w/e) is a VERY deep song. I've listened to that a few times, and had chills every time.
Re: Rap/Hip-Hop?
If I was to listen to a hip/hop-rap song, it needs to have a message, not just a SUPER-SOAK-DAT-HO sort of thing.
Re: Rap/Hip-Hop?
That Immortal Technique song is really deep. I'll link the lyrics b/c there's no way I'm posting them here.

Check it out if you get the chance.

I do like that song, it's one of the few. I've seen it before now, courtesy of Apollo.

Lol I blame NWA for starting this whole mess but F*** the Police is kind of funny. Glad to see another person who appreciates The Roots and Jedi Mind Tricks, you should check out Saul Williams and Jurrasic 5. That's some more stuff that has been buried by mainstream ringtone rap.

Re: Rap/Hip-Hop?
The only rap I dare to listen to now-a-days is Rage Against The Machine and Limp Bizkit.
Re: Rap/Hip-Hop?
Limp Bizkit is my least favorite band of all time and RATM is more Nu-Metal then anything.

Limp Bizkit is Nu Metal as well. They're more like a genre inside of a genre, because they're referred to as Rap Metal which is sort of a sub-genre of Nu Metal.
Re: Rap/Hip-Hop?
aw come one who does not like lyrics like "She, She lick me like a lollipop"
"Shawty wanna thug
Bottles in the club
Shawty wanna hump
You know I like to touch
Ya lovely lady lumps"
aha jk...
yea rap does not do it for me...I mean some beats are catchy...but I just have never been drawn to it.
