The View
My mother watches this show nearly every day. Today they were talking about the use of the "n" word relating to the whole Jesse Jackson thing. Whoopi and Cheri said that the "n" word is ok if it is said by a black person but offensive if said by a white person.
"It's something that means something way different to me than it does to you," said Cheri. "I can use it as a term of endearment."
Cheri also said to co-host Barbara Walters: "I don't want to hear it come out of your mouth."
Elizabeth contested that "We [blacks and whites] don't live in different worlds, we live in the same world."
Whoopi, who used the n-word repeatedly during the broadcast (it was bleeped out), said that "We don't live in the same world. What I need you to understand is the frustration that goes along with when you say we live in the same world. It isn't balanced."
Elizabeth tearfully replied that "when we live in a world where pop culture then uses that term, and we're trying to get to a place where we feel like we're in the same place, where we feel like we're in the same world ... how are we supposed to then move forward if we keep using terms that bring back that pain?"
I, personally, see this as a double standard. How can blacks demand to be treated as equals, then conciously separate themselves from the rest of the world? "It's ok if I say it, but if you say it, it's racist". There was another episode of The View in which Whoopi said "I could never live in Alabama because I couldn't stand to be around all those white people". Hahaha is all anybody said about it. But wasn't that racist? Wasn't that degrading? If the same thing had been said about Louisiana and how a white person couldn't live there because of all the black people, the Internet would explode with fuming bloggers and news reporters and whatnot.....
Whoopi also brought up "My mother was not allowed to vote, in the country she was born in". Not sure what that has to do with anything, but honestly, segregation was decades ago and any of the people alive today, black or white, did not have to experience it firsthand. The mentality that it is justifiable for blacks to do it to whites because they did it to them first is the same mentality that exists in an 8-year-old child. It is nothing more than a copout and a manifestation of the black culture’s grudge against people that are in no way responsible for the wrongs that were done to their ancestors. Yes, it happened, yes, it was a mistake, but guess what? We learned from it. And know what else? IT'S OVER!!!!!!
I have nothing against the black culture in ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. I just want to make that PERFECTLY CLEAR. I have a lot of friends who are black and the fact that they are black doesn't bother me in any way at all. I just think that things like Miss Black America should either be discontinued or be mirrored by a Miss White America and things like that. If what this country wants is equality, it should be expected from every....single....American, regardless of race, gender, religion, etc. If blacks would get upset over being called the n-word or degraded by whites, then it should be perfectly justifiable that whites not be slandarized by blacks. That's all I'm saying. You can't want equality and separation at the same time, it just doesn't work that way.

Re: The View
I definitely agree with you. It's funny how this group has demanded equality, and yet has its separate code. It kind of reminds me of the movie Kickin' It Old School where the kiddo goes into a coma, waked up 20 years later, and has to get used to all of the new stuff. There's a part of the movie where his black friend says the n-word and has to explain the meaning of the slang. Then of course, the main character uses this out of context and ends up getting some odd stares.
Personally, I don't like it at all. I don't like the "Gangsta" class, I don't like the wide use of the n-word by colored people...I don't understand why a race would fight blood sweat and tears for decades in riots, court cases, and all sorts of protests, only for the next generation to revert to using an offensive term as the norm.
Modern music makes me sick.
Besides, I know a few African Americans that are VERY professional businessmen. I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate getting called the n-word, even if by a member of the same race.
Oh well, what can you do? Just wait until it's uncool or something, I don't know. It's not even worth the effort, lol.

Re: The View
Yah dude.. its perfectly fine for them to have "The Negro College fund" but if we were to pop out a "The Caucasian college fund" there would be riots in the streets over the injustice and racism.
Amazingly this democracy isn't a ruling by the majority.. its of the hundreds of minorities.

Re: The View
I'm just saying that we need equality. Why should there be scholarships out there for Hispanics or Asians or whatever and absolutely NONE for just whites??

I can definitely agree.
Oh, equality is so good, you're all so racist.
Oh, and btw, this ungoddly chunk of money is only for this ethnicity, so you're SOL, sucka.
Re: The View
Yea, I definitely hate the double standards in our country. And I especially hate how if we had such college funds.....we would here about it....a Lot!

These government standards sound an awful lot like my parents' rules.
If P then Q then ~ P
No Tyler, you're too young to take part in that epic adventure.
No Tyler, you're too old now to wear clothes like that.
No Tyler, you need to spend quality time with the family...like watching this poorly structured and drama-filled reality TV show with us (wtf!?)
Blehhh.

I agree. everyone is offended. I think they should either convert it completely as a forbidden word, or entirely for endearment. but not both.
