Dystopia/Utopia books
I love them. I've read several books that take place in utupian and dystopian worlds. Books such as Brave New World, 1984 and The Handmaids Tale are a few of my favorites. I would like to hear your opinions on any of these types of books, and I'd also like some suggestions for other books under this topic that I haven't read yet!

Re: Dystopia/Utopia books
Of the books you have listed, I have only read 1984. I thought it was a great book. But I was wondering if you could tell me if that scenario in the book is possible to occur in real life, possibly the future. I don't know much about this topic and you, Johnny, are a freaking genius about this kind of stuff.
So basically I am asking, is a 1984ish setting possible in the future? If so, when?

Re: Dystopia/Utopia books
I've read two of those. The Handmaid's Tale is exceptionally creepy...it could easily happen now. It was also extremely enjoyable but it took a while for it to get me hooked. Brave New World was okay, while it was a classic I was only hooked during certain parts. I'm more of a scientific kind of guy so I was more interested in how machines and other things worked in BNW then the actual society itself. I found myself day dreaming about all sorts of stuff from it.

Re: Dystopia/Utopia books
I wasn't, on the whole, taken with Brave New World.
I pay more attention to my emotional attachment to a character, and I couldn't develop much of a connection with any of them in the novel. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't read it again unless prompted by assignment.
