I used to say "lol" all the time but then other people started saying it a lot and it made me think how annoying I must sound when I say it so I stopped

I also think it's a guy thing....all the guys I text talk with or whatever just say lol to keep the conversation moving....

The problem with "lol", is when I say it, it means I actually do find something funny. It's totally demoted by the fact that everyone just says it as a space-filler.

You're just redunkulous and it's amaztacular.

I generally use 'lol' when I mean to say something in kind heart, for instance, if I mean no offense and mean to portray words as a 'hey, i'm smiling here, so don't freak out'.

It's almost as bad as STOP. But something is different STOP. Instead of needing it, we have grown accustomed to using this for kicks STOP. one would think that writing 'STOP' would be obnoxious over and over, but in a hundred years from now, people may think it's stupid to write 'lol' after everything STOP.

There's a special thing for me.

lol - commonspeak; to be used in good heart
lol! - a little more exciting; I may find this to be rather intriguing.
lolz - jazzed up for diversity.
lawl - jazzed up for diversity.
LOL - a little more funny in my standards; I may have smiled.
haha - commonspeak; used the same as 'lol'
