Android
Android has successfully won my heart as my new favorite operating system, and being powered by Google only makes it that much better. Are Android and Google the future of mobile technology? I believe so. With the most powerful technology behind them, and some the most innovative teams working to create newer and better products, I firmly believe that the once up-in-coming superpower of Apple will lose its steam to the new kid in town.

Re: Android
I still think Apple has the edge. Android has a few kinks to work out in terms of functionality and user-friendliness. After test-driving a Samsung Galaxy Tablet with the Android OS, I found most aspects of it enjoyable, but silly things like video-chatting were ridiculously hard to figure out.
I talked about most of all this in my review of the tablet.
I like Android, but they have a ways to go before they overcome the advantages Apple has at the moment.

Re: Android
I've had my Droid X since it came out last summer, and I've had a pretty good relationship with it. I love the ability to root, customize, and get a custom feel with widgets and whatnot. It looks great, feels great, is pretty ruggedly built, etc., but that's largely hardware stuff and not OS.
Sometimes the thing drives me crazy. It has its hiccups, for sure with lags, restarts, freezes, etc. (again, some of this can be dished to Motorola, as I've had my hands on a few other Android-based handsets that seem to hold up just fine), and Android needs to do some major work on getting their updates out smoothly and consistently (How many people still don't have Froyo? And again, Gingerbread never really happened as-planned, but it'll get here eventually)
Now, Android Vs. Apple? Apple has the smoother UI, without question. Controls are more fluid without a doubt. But I don't think I'd give into getting an iPhone, as Android-based phones are getting better and better, more different, personalized, customizable, etc. I'm excited to see how things play out with future operating systems.
Oh, and how could I forget things like Google Navigation? Goggles? Google Voice?
When it comes down to it, I guess Android is my phone OS of choice as well

Re: Android
I personally like Apple a lot.
I've never had an Android device, but just using my dad's Droid Incredible vs. my iPhone, I enjoy the iPhone more.
I honestly am in love with my iPhone.
