Emotions Empty Emotions

Have you ever felt like maybe you let your emotions rule your life? I feel like I have been letting them take control a bit too much lately. It's like the rational part of my brain exists but I'm never able to use it properly until after the situation has already occurred. I feel like this is a big problem of mine and I'm really finding it difficult to try and figure out how to solve the problem. Maybe I just need an outlet. I need to find a hobby or something to devote my full attention too. I have faith that I will be able to overcome this eventually but it will take some work.

I used to be that way.
Then I got into art.

Try picking up an instrument, a pencil, or a camera. It can do wonders.

Well I am writing a script at the moment and I think once I start to really hit that thing hard things will get a little better. But it's still something I need to work on.

Well, the first part in recovery from these sorts of problems is awareness so you are already on the road to recovery. You just have to stick your goal now, and overcome this obstacle. And you have the ability to do so, I know you do.

I know you struggle with this, Jake, and I think the best way to cope is to start convincing yourself that a lot of what people say, think, or do means fuck all. People are easier to relate to if you stop worrying about what they think of you. Everyone has their pet peeves (we all know I have my fair share), and you shouldn't be so overwhelmed by making apologies or feeling like you need to compensate for the situation.

No one is perfect, man. You just need to find your niche, and stick to it. That's why I keep saying you need to begin defining yourself, because the longer you don't - the more other people will.
