Honor Thy Mother And Thy Father?

Post by Spishnittlestick on Sun Aug 31, 2008 1:18 pm

Well, as some of you know, I don't always get along with my parental units. I was just curious about what your policies with them are. I know some people that strictly and blindly follow everything their parents say, and I know some people that at least respect all of their parents' wishes. I'm a bit more on the civil disobedient side Razz

So what do you guys think? Do you trust your parents?

Talk to you parents normally?

Speak respectfully to your parents?

Lie to your parents?

Disobey your parents?

I don't trust my parents, I sometimes disobey them and I almost never listen. I do not talk to them about things. All I'm waiting for is the number 18 so I can get out.

Ugh. Parents. WEll.... my parents and me have never really been close. I don't talk to them about much of anything. The one time I told my mom about a guy I liked I kinda regretted it because she didn't take me seriously. And, they don't want me to date. And I hate that. AAANNNDDD.... I trust them about some things, but when it comes to my mom telling me that I could do something... forget it... I disobey as most kids do, and... yeah.

Eh.... They see me as "the perfect child" or so they say... They have NO IDEA what I'm like...

Their view of me:

A straight-A Christian student who does well in class, never gets in trouble, doesn't cuss, has no friends, etc.

Me:

Atheist. Eh... I do okay in class. I get in trouble a bit because of my views on life and heroes, etc. (On a student interview question "Who would you most like to meet and why?" I put 'Hitler, so I could see how his life was as a child.') I cuss.... I've been trying to cut back on it, though. And the friends thing is partially true.... I have a few, but not many in school.

Honestly, I don't listen half the time because they're usually yelling and cussing (Mario Kart brings out their competitive sides) or they're telling me something I already know.
As far as obeying, there's not much to obey. As long as I out of the view path between them and the TV, they don't tell me to do anything....except maybe high-5 my mom (don't ask.).
Talk to them normally? Eh.
Lie to them? No, but I do tend to leave out details. Like when my phone got taken away and I had to serve detention to get it back. I "stayed after school to do my homework."

Speak respectfully? I barely speak around them.

Talk to you parents normally? Yeah but more so with my dad

Speak respectfully to your parents?
more so with my mom
Lie to your parents?
more to my mom
Disobey your parents?
more to my mom

So my mom is a lot stricter than my Dad and i have an easier time talking to my Dad than to my mom, but my mom and i can still talk without fighting or whatever.

My parents are pretty laid back and I don't do many things that could get me in trouble so I don't have a hard time doing that.

my dad treats me differently than my little brother. He never trusted me to do anything, ever, and he always asks questions about everything and I always feel.. out of place. He's over-protective of me and not of our little Andy.

well and mom has always been a little more.. happy, with Andrew than me. mom's angry with me most of the time.

I do not agree with this if the parents are arbitrarily exercising authority to the extent it's harmful for the child. Like for instance if the parents don't allow any sort of communication with the outside world. That's harmful for a growing child, because a child with each year they grow needs to learn how to interact with others and make it on their own.

My parents are cool, though we clash at times. I feel very lucky to have them as parents.

Most of the time I'm respectful and obedient towards my parents. I do tend to lie at times, but who doesn't? We usually talk fairly casually and normally, but some conversations are better suited for each parent as an individual. I share traits between my parents, but I'm not very much like them when it comes to my personality.

I lie to my parents more than I would like to admit. they're not major things, but I don't think they care as long as I keep going to school, keep getting A's, and remain in constructive activities.

As long as I appear to be listening to their lectures and conversations they don't care if I really am. With my dad it's more the speed of the answer than the quality of it. If they don't care about the kinds of things I'm really creating and doing and thinking about, then I don't care what they're saying. I've never been close to my parents. It's no way to honor them though. I admit they clothe me and feed me and give me a home, they're just a little thick sometimes.
